The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has accredited the representative office of Citibank AS, the Turkish subsidiary of the global financial group Citigroup, the regulator’s press service announced.
The office has been established to study Uzbekistan’s financial market and to foster partnerships with government agencies and financial institutions, according to the Central Bank.
This development follows agreements reached during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to New York in September 2023, when he met with Citigroup Chairman John Dugan. Their talks focused on strengthening cooperation in banking and finance, supporting Uzbekistan’s capital markets, and exploring the possibility of opening a Citibank subsidiary office in Tashkent.
Subsequently, in June 2025, the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade hosted a delegation from Citigroup led by Chief Client Officer David Livingstone. Discussions centered on expanding cooperation in investment, supporting exports, and implementing public-private partnership projects.
ℹ️ Citibank AS is now the eighth foreign bank to open a representative office in Uzbekistan. According to the Central Bank, the country also hosts representative offices of seven other foreign banks: J.P. Morgan Chase Bank (USA), Gazprombank (Russia), Commerzbank AG and Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (both Germany), Shinhan Bank and Korea Eximbank (both South Korea), and the Export-Import Bank of China.
