Uzbek airline Centrum Air has launched a new route connecting Samarkand and Dushanbe, Asia-Plus reports.
On July 20, the first direct flight between Samarkand and Dushanbe since 2018 was completed. Flights on the route will now operate twice a week—on Thursdays and Sundays—with a flight time of 45 minutes. Ticket prices start at $48 (608,000 Uzbek sums or 460 Tajik somoni).
The day before, on July 19, the same airline launched a new route between Tashkent and Dushanbe. Flights on this route will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with tickets starting at $52 (653,000 sums or 495 somoni). Alongside Centrum Air, Somon Air and Uzbekistan Airways also offer flights between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Air travel between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan was suspended in 1992 following the outbreak of civil war in Tajikistan and resumed only in 2017 after Shavkat Mirziyoyev came to power in Uzbekistan. In July 2018, Tajik Air briefly offered direct flights from Dushanbe to Samarkand, but ticket sales were halted a month later—reportedly due to low passenger demand.
