Turkmengaz has suspended natural gas supplies to Russia following unsuccessful price negotiations with Gazprom representatives. The reason for not extending the contract was announced by Turkmengaz Corporation Chairman Maksat Babayev, as reported by TASS.
According to Babayev, the agreement for Turkmen gas supplies to Russia expired on June 30 this year. This date was specifically designated for price revision negotiations. However, the parties failed to reach an understanding regarding the commercial aspects of cooperation.
Nevertheless, the official did not rule out the possibility of resuming exports to Russia. «Currently, we are seeing increased demand from various directions — northern, western, and eastern. We can say that we are in negotiations with different buyers and countries every day, so everything is possible,» Babayev stated.
Contract History
Media sources report that Gazprom signed the contract for Turkmen gas supplies in 2019. Under the agreement terms, the Central Asian republic was to supply up to 5.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to Russia over five years.
