Aidos Rysbayev, the former deputy minister of internal affairs of Kazakhstan who was dismissed following the high-profile murder of a teenager in Talgar, has been appointed to a new position. He now heads the Transport Police Department, according to the Polisia.kz website.

The new department head was introduced to staff by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aidar Saitbekov. A statement highlighted that Police Major General Aidos Rysbayev brings extensive leadership experience and the qualities needed for effective management of the department.

Rysbayev had served as deputy minister of internal affairs since November 2023, overseeing criminal police operations as well as efforts to combat drug-related and organized crime.

The senior police official lost his position in late October following the death of 16-year-old Sherzat Bolat in Talgar, a city located a few dozen kilometers from Almaty. A group of men brutally beat the teenager and subsequently killed him in front of his relatives. Local residents alleged that members of the «Khutorskie» organized crime group, whose existence the Ministry of Internal Affairs had long denied, were involved in the crime.

In the wake of the incident, several local police officers and city administration (akimat) officials were dismissed. Whether Rysbayev's resignation was directly linked to the Talgar case was not specified. However, some local media outlets suggested that his dismissal might have been tied to another equally controversial investigation.
