On December 6, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning 483 convicts. This brings the total number of pardons in the country for 2024 to 1,431.
The latest decree was issued in honor of the country’s Constitution Day, celebrated on December 8. The act of clemency traditionally applies to those who “committed crimes out of ignorance but have sincerely repented and firmly embarked on the path of correction.”
Among those pardoned, 107 individuals were fully released from punishment, 275 received conditional early release, and sentences for 7 convicts were commuted to less severe penalties. Prison terms were reduced for 94 people.
The pardoned individuals include 25 foreign nationals, 32 women, and 5 men over the age of 60. More than half are young people: 274 individuals are under the age of 30, including 104 minors. Additionally, 6 individuals involved in activities with banned organizations were pardoned.
Ministries and agencies have been tasked with assisting the pardoned individuals in reintegrating with their families, adapting socially, and engaging in productive work and a healthy lifestyle.
ℹ️ This is the third pardon decree issued in 2024. In April, ahead of the Ramazan Hayit (Eid al-Fitr) holiday, the president pardoned 426 convicts, and in August, on the eve of the 33rd anniversary of the country’s independence, 522 individuals were pardoned.
