During a meeting in Beijing on February 5, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov agreed to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, Xinhua reports.

Xi noted that relations between the two countries have reached a new level of comprehensive strategic partnership and expressed China’s support for Kyrgyzstan’s chosen path of development. He emphasized China’s commitment to expanding trade and economic ties, increasing imports of Kyrgyz goods, and attracting more Chinese investors to Kyrgyzstan while ensuring the protection of their rights and interests.

Special attention was given to the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and the modernization of border checkpoints to facilitate the movement of people and goods. The parties also discussed expanding cooperation in cross-border e-commerce, big data, and artificial intelligence.

For his part, Japarov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation within the Belt and Road framework, as well as in industry, investment, trade, transport, e-commerce, and education.

The two leaders also agreed on close collaboration within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the China-Central Asia Mechanism, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative.

Following the talks, a joint statement was signed on deepening China-Kyrgyzstan comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era, along with several agreements in diplomacy, economy, trade, and agriculture.

Among the signed agreements were investment deals with China's Shenzhen Energy Group Co., Ltd. for the construction of two power plants—one wind and one solar—each with a capacity of 300 MW in Kyrgyzstan.

President Japarov arrived in China on February 4 for a state visit. In addition to meeting with Xi, he held talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji. Japarov also attended the unveiling of a bust of Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov at Beijing Language and Culture University and is set to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin on February 7.
