The Export-Import Bank of China (EximBank) has allocated $500 million to the government of Uzbekistan for a major telecommunications project. The loan agreement was signed by EximBank Chairman Chen Huayou and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, according to a statement from the ministry’s press service.
At the signing ceremony, Minister Kudratov emphasized the project’s importance and expressed confidence that EximBank’s support for IT-sector initiatives would yield positive outcomes.
The two officials also reviewed the progress of current agreements and discussed prospects for cooperation in new areas.
Among the sectors under consideration are:
✅ construction of hydropower facilities;
✅ sustainable development in agriculture;
✅ modernization of transportation infrastructure.
According to MIIT, Uzbekistan and China’s EximBank have been cooperating since 2002. Over that time, they have implemented 51 projects totaling $3.2 billion in areas including infrastructure development, green energy, transport, agriculture, water management, education, and healthcare. Currently, two more initiatives worth $1.9 billion are underway, and 13 additional projects valued at $2.2 billion are in the planning stages.
