The Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan issued an official statement regarding the fire in its building under construction on the morning of August 19.
The blaze on the roof was caused by a violation of technical regulations during the installation of thermal insulation, the statement said. The fire was contained, with 19 square meters of roofing damaged. No casualties were reported, and the interior premises were unaffected.
At the same time, false information has been circulating on social media, alleging that staff were inside the building during the incident and that artifacts were damaged. This does not correspond to reality: employees have not yet moved into the facility, as construction is ongoing and the building has not been officially commissioned. Unique exhibits for the future museum, including a fragment of the Kaaba’s covering, are stored elsewhere under special protection.
Construction work is being carried out by the following organizations: the designer — Uzogirsanoatloyiha JSC; the general contractor — Trest-12 JSC; the client — the engineering company Single Customer Service under the Tashkent city administration; and the financing body — the Directorate for the Construction, Reconstruction, and Capital Repair of Socio-Cultural and Historical Sites under the Government of Uzbekistan. A number of leading foreign companies and specialists are also involved in the project.
At present, the construction process is fully under the control of the relevant authorities, progressing according to plan, and at its final stage, the Center emphasized. The leadership of the Center urges the public to rely solely on information provided by official sources.
