Russia plans to build an industrial zone in Tajikistan in 2026. As early as next year, the first residents may begin operations at the site, suggested Dmitry Kuskov, head of the Department of International Cooperation and Licensing in the Field of Foreign Trade of Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, as quoted by TASS.
“We are already ready to cooperate with companies and invite them to join so that we can build infrastructure tailored to their needs,” the official said.
According to the agency, an intergovernmental agreement to establish an industrial park in Tajikistan with Russian specialists was signed in March of this year during President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Moscow. At that time, the parties discussed the placement of enterprises in light industry, chemical production, and mechanical engineering.
The Tajik outlet Asia-Plus adds that the idea of creating a Russian industrial zone in Dushanbe was first voiced in April 2023, during a visit by a Russian government delegation to the republic. In particular, the initiative was supported by Industry Minister Denis Manturov, while the company Khimgrad expressed its readiness to carry out the project.
Later, Russian officials stated that a site for the industrial park had already been selected — it would be located in the center of Tajikistan’s capital. Initially, old factories with preserved production facilities and infrastructure suitable for modernization were considered.
In July of this year, media reported that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia had already begun developing the project on the grounds of the former enterprise Korgohi Mashinasozi, covering an area of 9.3 hectares. Information for prospective residents indicated that priority sectors would include mechanical engineering, machine tool construction, light industry, chemicals, as well as medical and electrical equipment production. The site was promoted as having good transport accessibility, centralized infrastructure, and an available labor force.
According to Tajik media, several industrial parks already operate in the country, including those in Dushanbe and Khujand, as well as five free economic zones. The new project is intended to complement the existing system and give additional impetus to Russian-Tajik business cooperation.
