A presentation of the activities of Uzbekistan’s Center for Islamic Civilization (CIC) took place in Istanbul, the CIC press service reported.
The event was held as part of an international symposium marking the 100th anniversary of Turkey’s National Palaces Administration. It brought together around 300 participants from 37 countries. More than 50 papers were presented on contemporary approaches to museum practice and cultural heritage preservation.
Uzbekistan was represented by Firdaus Abdukhalikov, director of the Center for Islamic Civilization and chair of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan (WOSCU). In his address, he outlined the mission of the CIC, the concept of its museum exhibitions, and the international scholarly research carried out by WOSCU.
The presentation also included a video about the CIC’s activities and a short film produced for the Center as part of an international multimedia project featuring Hollywood actor Ben Kingsley.
The Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan is located in Tashkent next to the Khast-Imam complex. Designed in the style of medieval architectural monuments, the building features four portals, each 34 meters high, and a central dome rising 65 meters. It includes a Quran Hall, a 460-seat conference hall, and a museum whose exhibitions will cover the full span of Uzbekistan’s history—from pre-Islamic times to the present day. The CIC aims to become a platform for studying and reassessing the heritage of Uzbekistan’s ancestors in cooperation with the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and scholarly and educational centers worldwide.
