An international conference on the legacy of Amir Temur and the Timurid era has opened at Uzbekistan’s Center of Islamic Civilization, bringing together scholars from across Europe, Asia, and the United States.
The event coincides with the 690th anniversary of Amir Temur’s birth. In a message read out at the opening, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan is intensifying efforts to study and promote the Timurid heritage and use it to foster patriotism and respect for cultural values. April has been officially designated as the “Month of Amir Temur,” with conferences and educational events held nationwide.
Speakers highlighted the Timurid era’s broader impact on world civilization, from state-building and science to architecture and culture. The forum also showcased the work of the Center of Islamic Civilization as a hub linking research, museums, and international dialogue.
Participants included representatives of ICESCO, IRCICA, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and leading academic institutions. Discussions focused on historical sources such as the Tuzuk-i Temur, governance practices, and the intellectual legacy of the period.
During the conference, TURKSOY named the Center’s Museum of Islamic Civilization History the “Best Museum of the Turkic World.” The organization also pledged support for projects promoting Timurid heritage, including publications and digital initiatives.
The forum produced practical outcomes, including a cooperation memorandum with China on joint film projects. International participants emphasized Uzbekistan’s historical role as a crossroads of civilizations and the continued relevance of Timurid heritage for cultural identity and global scholarship.
