Uzbekistan and India have agreed to quadruple bilateral trade turnover to $5 billion by 2030. The agreement was reached during talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Tashkent on August 30 for a state visit, president.uz reports. The talks underscored that bilateral relations have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, with the economy as the main focus of the meeting. Officials noted that mutual trade grew 33% in 2025 to reach $1.3 billion, while the number of joint ventures has increased sevenfold in recent years. Fourteen direct flights now operate weekly between the two countries.
The two sides identified cooperation prospects in energy, electrical engineering, metallurgy, critical minerals, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and the jewelry industry.
Mirziyoyev praised India's achievements in digital technology, software, and startups, calling the country «a reliable and promising strategic partner with high authority and influence on the global stage."
Following the talks, the two sides signed a series of documents, including:
▫️a joint statement by the leaders of India and Uzbekistan;
▫️a cultural exchange program between the two governments for 2026–2030;
▫️a tourism cooperation program for 2026–2028;
▫️a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Ayurveda and other traditional medicine;
▫️an agreement on cooperation in higher education and scientific research;
▫️an agreement establishing partnership relations between the Samarkand region and the Indian state of Gujarat;
▫️a protocol on conducting archaeological research at the Fayoztepa and Karatepa sites, among other documents.
After the talks, the President of Uzbekistan awarded the Indian Prime Minister the Order of «Oliy Darajali Do'stlik» («Friendship of the Highest Degree»), Uzbekistan's highest state honor for foreign citizens.
