A 33-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan has been sentenced to 15 years in a penal colony for financing terrorism, according to the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office. The verdict was issued by the Second Western District Military Court.
The court found that in October 2022, while in Moscow, Makhbubakhon Urinboyeva gave an acquaintance the details of a bank card and account opened in her name, as well as login credentials to the online banking account, effectively granting him full control.
Using Urinboyeva’s account and card, the man received and then transferred 6,500 rubles, which were subsequently cashed abroad. The funds were intended to support the activities of a terrorist organization. The Moscow Prosecutor’s Office did not specify the group, but according to TASS, the case concerns the international terrorist organization Katiba Tawhid wal-Jihad, which is banned and designated as terrorist in Russia and operates in Syria.
Urinboyeva denied any wrongdoing. She was convicted under Part 5 of Article 33 and Part 4 of Article 205.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (“Aiding and abetting the organization of terrorism financing”). The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed through the standard legal process.
