Labor migrants from Uzbekistan who have been left without housing in Russia will be able to receive a free bed in hostels for up to 30 days. The program was announced by the Russian office of Uzbekistan’s Agency for External Labor Migration.
The initiative is intended for Uzbek citizens who, while working in Russia, have “found themselves in difficult financial circumstances, lost their housing, faced pressure, or become victims of forced labor or violence.”
The agency’s representative office has signed agreements with around 15 hostels and short-stay hotels located in Moscow and the Moscow region. Negotiations are under way to conclude similar agreements with hostels and hotels in the Northwestern, Ural, Siberian, Far Eastern, and Southern federal districts.
To receive assistance, applicants must apply in person at the agency’s Moscow office at 11/2 1st Kazachy Lane (Polyanka metro station). After reviewing each individual case, a decision will be made on whether to provide free accommodation. A contact phone number is also available: +7 (925) 045-47-44.
The representative office also reminded citizens of the possibility of receiving financial assistance in Russia or other countries. This may include help with medical expenses, housing costs, legal fees, repatriation, and other needs.
In November, Uzbek authorities reported plans to establish a situation center within the Migration Agency that will provide round-the-clock assistance to citizens, including those working abroad.
