State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Launches E-Visa System and Online Registration Portal for Foreigners
The State Migration Service (SMS) of Turkmenistan has launched an electronic visa system and an online registration portal for foreign citizens, Turkmenistaninfo reports.
The new digital services were presented at the SMS. Heads of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan attended the event, while Turkmen ambassadors abroad joined by video link.
The e-visa system runs on the migration.gov.tm portal. Foreigners can use it to submit documents online and obtain permission to enter the country. The agency's official portal operates as a separate digital service.
The agency has also launched rgstr.migration.gov.tm, a website for the online registration of foreign citizens. Tourists, businesspeople and diplomats can use it to submit documents for migration registration.
Authorities expect the shift to electronic procedures to speed up document processing and cut paperwork.
Before the e-visa was introduced, foreigners traveling to Turkmenistan as tourists generally had to obtain an invitation through a host party or tour operator before applying for a visa. In April 2025, amendments to the law «On Migration» removed the invitation requirement for the e-visa. However, the authorities have not yet publicly released detailed terms of the new system, including the e-Visa fee, processing times and the full list of required documents.
