President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has launched the construction of a 12-megawatt data center in Tashkent, to be built in partnership with the Saudi company Data Volt, the presidential press service reported.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 21 as part of the launch of the second phase of expansion of the IT Park, located in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district of the Uzbek capital. Mirziyoyev placed a symbolic capsule at the foundation of the new facilities and officially inaugurated the construction.

The $150 million data center will serve as the central element of the project’s second phase. An additional $3 billion in investment is planned to expand the total capacity of the data center to 500 MW.

The expansion project, which will increase the IT Park’s area by 1.5 times, includes the construction of six new buildings: a Center for Artificial Intelligence, a Space and Future Technologies Center, two 20-story office towers, as well as service and retail facilities. According to the plans, the updated complex is expected to become a modern “Artificial Intelligence Hub.”

The first phase of the IT Park was completed in 2023 with $200 million in investment. Six office buildings and a congress hall were constructed on a four-hectare site.

Currently, the IT Park hosts 3,200 resident companies employing more than 14,000 specialists. In 2024, the total value of services provided by these companies reached $1.6 billion, and by the end of 2025, that figure is expected to exceed $2.5 billion. Export volume is projected to reach $1 billion for the first time.

The project is being implemented as part of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy, which aims to create over 300,000 high-paying jobs in the information technology sector. According to foreign experts, Uzbekistan’s potential in the field of artificial intelligence alone is estimated at $10 billion, the presidential press service noted.
