Uzbekistan and Albania have agreed to explore using the Albanian port of Durrës as a logistics hub to bring Uzbek products to the markets of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. The agreement was reported by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

It was reached on June 16 during talks between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Albanian President Bajram Begaj, who arrived in Tashkent on an official visit.

Mirziyoyev stressed that the summit was the first in the history of bilateral relations and that Uzbek-Albanian ties are entering a qualitatively new stage. Both sides welcomed the intensification of political dialogue and the growing number of contacts at various levels.

The talks gave priority to boosting trade. The two sides agreed to prepare a full-scale cooperation program covering key sectors such as the agro-industrial complex, green energy, geology, information technology, digitalization, and tourism.

The leaders also decided to expand the legal framework for trade, economic, and investment cooperation. An intergovernmental commission will be set up to advance the economic agenda, with its first meeting planned for Tashkent later this year.

The Albanian president's visit will conclude on June 17.
